The Long Lab investigates how undergraduate students learn biology and how teaching can better facilitate their learning. We study the short- and long-term benefits of teaching in an Introductory Biology course that engages students in authentic scientific practices. For information on this research area, please visit Reforming Introductory Biology.
Additionally, we investigate the model-based instruction as a means to improve students' understanding of biological systems. For information on this research area, please visit Models and Visualizations.
The Long lab also works with the graduate program that integrates computational and plant biology. For more information visit NSF Research Training: IMPACTS.
