Systems Thinking Framework

Explaining and predicting the behavior of living things requires an understanding of living systems, and many national documents have advocated the inclusion of systems thinking in the undergraduate curriculum, but a question remains - what are the components of systems thinking useful for undergraduate biology students? To answer this question, we use large bibliographic databases to identify important articles pertaining to systems thinking, and then once identified, we analyze these documents for themes. The analysis reveals ideas across multiple disciplines that inform a systems thinking framework for the life science curriculum.
